Smart Key Programming
A smart key talks to the car continuously over a short range, which is why the car unlocks as you approach and starts with a button. Because it is a two-way conversation rather than a chip being read, programming a replacement is a different procedure from a traditional transponder key — and takes longer.
Nearly all smart keys still contain a hidden emergency blade, and most cars still have a concealed keyhole on the driver's door. If your smart key has failed entirely, you may still be able to get into the vehicle. Worth finding before you assume you are stranded.
If your smart key only works when held directly against the start button, the car is using the backup induction method because the key's battery or antenna has failed. It is a warning, not a fix — the key will stop entirely soon after.

Common questions
Can you make a car key if I have lost every key?
Yes — that is our specialty. With no working key, the key is originated from the vehicle's key code and the immobiliser is programmed from scratch. Bring your driver's licence and the vehicle registration so we can confirm ownership. Call with the year, make and model and we will confirm on the phone whether it is a job we complete on site.
Do I need to tow my car to the dealer for a lost key?
In most cases, no. A mobile locksmith with the right equipment can originate a key at the vehicle, so there is no tow and no dealer appointment. There are a small number of makes and model years where the dealer is genuinely the right answer, and we will tell you if yours is one of them rather than take the job and find out.
What do you need from me before you come out?
The year, make and model of the vehicle, and the VIN if you can read it through the base of the windscreen. For a home or business call, the number of locks and the hardware brand if you know it. That is what lets us quote a real range instead of a guess.
What identification do I need for a car key?
A driver's licence and the vehicle registration. If the vehicle is a rental, the rental agreement works in place of the registration. Originating a key to a car is exactly the kind of capability that has to be handled carefully, so this is not negotiable.
