Locksmith guide

Lost your car key? Here's what to do.

Losing your only car key is one of the most stressful vehicle situations — especially if you need the car. The good news: a mobile locksmith can originate a new key for most makes and models without the original, without towing the car, and usually faster than a dealership.

What you need to have

When you call us, have your make, model, and year ready. A VIN (on the dashboard near the windshield, or on your registration) helps us confirm we have the right blank before we dispatch. When we arrive, you'll need to present a driver's license and vehicle registration. If it's a rental, the rental agreement works.

Why not just go to the dealer?

Dealers can make car keys — but they typically require you to tow the car in, and the appointment may be days away. A mobile locksmith comes to you. We originate the key on-site and program it to the vehicle right there, which means you drive away in the same visit.

What about push-to-start / proximity keys?

Smart keys and proximity fobs require programming that a regular key-cutting shop can't do. We carry programming equipment for most makes and models. Call with your VIN and we'll confirm compatibility before coming out.

All-keys-lost situations

An 'all-keys-lost' job (where there are no working keys at all) is slightly more involved for some vehicles — programming requires putting the car in a special mode. We handle these regularly. Tell us when you call and we'll confirm the process and the pricing for your specific vehicle.
